Protein function: Plays a role in RNA-mediated gene silencing by both micro- RNAs (miRNAs) and short interfering RNAs (siRNAs). Required for miRNA- dependent repression of translation and for siRNA-dependent endonucleolytic cleavage of complementary mRNAs by argonaute family proteins.
