Anti-Ghrelin

Ghrelin is an orexigenic (food intake stimulating) 27 or 28aa gut-brain peptide hormone produced by endocrine cells in the stomach, pancreatic islets and certain hypothalamic neurons1,2. Two forms are produced by alternative mRNA splicing, 13 or 14aa is missing from the second form. "Active" ghrelin is acylated (octanoylated) at Ser3, this form stimulates growth hormone secretion via GHS receptors and increases appetite. The des-acyl form does not have these effects but may have other actions. Plasma responses of total ghrelin to food may reflect those of active ghrelin3. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
