Anti-Bcl-w, clone 6D159

Bcl-w is a 21kD homolog of bcl-2 (1). It is an apoptosis inhibitor that is implicated in the development of follicular lymphoma in human (1). The structural gene of Bcl-w is located on chromosome 14 of mouse, near the T-cell antigen receptor alpha gene. Enforced expression of Bcl-w enables cells to withstand several cytotoxic conditions, suggesting that this protein promotes cell survival. Mutant mice that failed to produce bcl-w exhibit sterility associated with progressive testicular degeneration (2). In young adults, spermatogenesis is blocked during late spermiogenesis. This is followed by gradual depletion of all stages of germ cells, with the exception of Sertoli cells. Finally all Sertoli cells are lost from the seminiferous tubules (2). Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunoprecipitation. Other applications have not been tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: Works for transfected and Bcl-w overproducing cells. For detection of endogemous Bcl-w, Immunoprecipitation is required., Optimal dilutions to be determined by researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
