This gene encodes a member of the acyl-CoA thioesterase protein family, and is one of four acyl-CoA hydrolase genes located in a cluster on chromosome 14. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012], Protein function: Catalyzes the hydrolysis of acyl-CoAs into free fatty acids and coenzyme A (CoASH), regulating their respective intracellular levels (PubMed:16940157, PubMed:10944470). Displays higher activity toward long chain acyl CoAs (C14-C20) (PubMed:16940157, PubMed:10944470). The enzyme is involved in enhancing the hepatic fatty acid oxidation in mitochondria. [The UniProt Consortium] Recommended dilutions: Western Blot: 1/500 - 1/2000. Immunohistochemistry: 1/100 - 1/300. Immunofluorescence: 1/200 - 1/1000. ELISA: 1/40000. Not yet tested in other applications.. Cellular localization: Mitochondrion .
