Primary antibodies play an important role in numerous immunological, biochemical as well as molecular and cell biological applications. For example, they are used for ELISA, Western blot, flow cytometry and for immunohistochemistry. The primary antibodies originate from different host species such as mouse, rabbit or goat. Depending on the manufacturing, polyclonal or monoclonal antibodies can be isolated, which both have individual (dis-)advantages. Primary antibodies are usually combined with a suitable, labeled secondary antibody. Alternatively, there are pre-conjugted primary antibodies for direct antigen detection.
