Myosin light-chain 2 (MLC2), also known as myosin regulatory light chain 2, is a subtype of MLC... more
Product information "Anti-MLC2 (Phospho-Ser19) Rabbit (Clone RM484"
Myosin light-chain 2 (MLC2), also known as myosin regulatory light chain 2, is a subtype of MLC expressed in cardiac ventricular and skeletal slow-twitch muscles. MLC2 is composed of three calcium-binding EF-hand domains and is found in the head-stem interface of myosin with other MLC isoforms. It is phosphorylated at serine 19 (Ser19) by MLC kinase (MLCK), which stabilizes myosin filaments for cardiac- or skeletal muscle contractions. Mutations in MYL2, the gene encoding MLC2, have been found in patients with mild familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (FHC). Cayman's MCL2 (Phospho-Ser19) Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody (Clone RM484) can be used for Western blot (WB).. Cross reactivity: (+) MCL2 (phospho-Ser19): (-) Unphosphorylated MCL2. (+) Human: (+) Mouse, (+) Rat.. Protein function: Contractile protein that plays a role in heart development and function. Following phosphorylation, plays a role in cross-bridge cycling kinetics and cardiac muscle contraction by increasing myosin lever arm stiffness and promoting myosin head diffusion, as a consequence of the increase in maximum contraction force and calcium sensitivity of contraction force. These events altogether slow down myosin kinetics and prolong duty cycle resulting in accumulated myosins being cooperatively recruited to actin binding sites to sustain thin filament activation as a means to fine-tune myofilament calcium sensitivity to force. During cardiogenesis plays an early role in cardiac contractility by promoting cardiac myofibril assembly. [The UniProt Consortium]
