In zebrafish (Danio rerio), Bcl2a functions as an anti-apoptotic protein, playing a key role in promoting cell survival during development and in response to cellular stress.Bcl2a acts by inhibiting the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway, primarily through binding and neutralizing pro-apoptotic proteins such as Bax and Bak. This prevents the release of cytochrome c and the subsequent activation of caspases.
