Androgen receptor (AR) plays an important role in the development of prostate cancer. The positive expression of AR is related to the degree of prostate cancer tissue differentiation, and the patients with AR have significant effect on anti-hormone therapy. It is mainly used to detect prostate cancer and guide the treatment. At present, it can also be used in the research of breast cancer, esophageal cancer and other malignant tumors. Androgen receptor (AR) is highly expressed in well differentiated tumors, but low or no expression in poorly differentiated tumors. Protein function: Steroid hormone receptors are ligand-activated transcription factors that regulate eukaryotic gene expression and affect cellular proliferation and differentiation in target tissues (PubMed:19022849). Transcription factor activity is modulated by bound coactivator and corepressor proteins like ZBTB7A that recruits NCOR1 and NCOR2 to the androgen response elements/ARE on target genes, negatively regulating androgen receptor signaling and androgen-induced cell proliferation (PubMed:20812024).
