Trazodone Hydrochloride

Trazodone hydrochloride exhibits antidepressant, anxiolytic, and hypnotic activity. Trazodone hydrochloride inhibits 5-HT2 receptors, 1/2-adrenergic receptors, histamine receptors, and serotonin transporters (SERT), and also acts as a partial agonist at 5-HT1A receptors. Although trazodone hydrochloride is clinically acceptable for treatment of anxiety, depression, and insomnia, it is also often used to treat erectile dysfunction due to its inhibition of adrenergic receptors. In addition to its modulation of neurotransmitters, this compound also weakly inhibits voltage-gated K+ channels, binding to closed channels and accelerating inactivation of open channels.
