Anti-Uncoupling Protein 3 (UCP 3, UCP3, Mitochondrial Uncoupling Protein 3, Solute Carrier Family 25

UCP3 is a recently identified candidate mediator of adaptive thermogenesis in humans. It is expressed predominantly in human skeletal muscle and heart and exists as short and long form transcripts, UCP3S and UCP3L. UCP3 is thought to uncouple oxidative phosphorylation, reducing aerobic ATP production and dissipating energy as heat and thus plays an important role in the regulation of human energy expenditure. The protein is also involved in the exit of fatty acids out of the mitochondrial matrix, insulin sensitivity and protection against both reactive oxygen species. The pathological role of the protein has been studied in severe obesity. The human UCP3 gene is localized in the chromosomal region 11q13. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 0.5-2ug/ml, Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Positive Control: Human, mouse and rat heart lysate, Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
