This protein permits the cleavage of cholesterol into pregnenolone by mediating the transport of cholesterol from the outer mitochondrial membrane to the inner mitochondrial membrane. Protein function: Plays a key role in steroid hormone synthesis by enhancing the metabolism of cholesterol into pregnenolone.
