Product information "Anti-Gelsolin, clone GEL-42"
0.5mg/ml with 1% BSA and 0.01% sodium azide if reconstituted with 0.2ml sterile 1XPBS. Gelsolin, a protein of leukocytes, platelets, and other cells, severs actin filaments in the presence of submicromolar calcium, thereby solating cytoplasmic actin gels. A gelsolin variant with 23 more N-terminal amino acids is a plasma component probably involved in the clearance of actin, the most abundant human protein, from the circulation. Gelsolin is located in 9q34. Plasma and cytoplasmic gelsolins are encoded by a single gene and contain a duplicated actin-binding domain. Protein function: Calcium-regulated, actin-modulating protein that binds to the plus (or barbed) ends of actin monomers or filaments, preventing monomer exchange (end-blocking or capping). It can promote the assembly of monomers into filaments (nucleation) as well as sever filaments already formed. Plays a role in ciliogenesis. [The UniProt Consortium]
