Fibroblast Growth Factor-21 (FGF-21) belongs to the FGF family of heparin-binding polypeptides and is most closely related to FGF-23. Both proteins are synthesized as a precursor with hydrophobic signal peptides. FGF-21 is most highly expressed in the liver.
