Product information "Anti-EF-G2"
Eukaryotes contain two protein translational systems, one in the cytoplasm and one in the mitochondria. Mitochondrial translation is crucial for maintaining mitochondrial function and mutations in this system lead to a breakdown in the respiratory chain-oxidative phosphorylation system and to impaired maintenance of mitochondrial DNA. This gene encodes one of the mitochondrial translation elongation factors, which is a GTPase that plays a role at the termination of mitochondrial translation by mediating the disassembly of ribosomes from messenger RNA . Its role in the regulation of normal mitochondrial function and in disease states attributed to mitochondrial dysfunction is not known. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013], Protein function: Mitochondrial GTPase that mediates the disassembly of ribosomes from messenger RNA at the termination of mitochondrial protein biosynthesis (PubMed:19716793, PubMed:33878294). Acts in collaboration with MRRF (PubMed:19716793, PubMed:33878294). Promotes mitochondrial ribosome recycling by dissolution of intersubunit contacts (PubMed:33878294). GTP hydrolysis follows the ribosome disassembly and probably occurs on the ribosome large subunit (PubMed:19716793). Not involved in the GTP-dependent ribosomal translocation step during translation elongation (PubMed:19716793). [The UniProt Consortium] Recommended dilutions: Western Blot: 1/500 - 1/2000. Immunohistochemistry: 1/100 - 1/300. Immunofluorescence: 1/200 - 1/1000. ELISA: 1/20000. Not yet tested in other applications.. Cellular localization: Mitochondrion .
