As a catalyst of the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide, the protein participate in a variety of biologic processes such as respiration, calcification, and acid-base balance. Protein function: Catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide (PubMed:10550681, PubMed:18618712). Can hydrate cyanamide to urea (PubMed:10550681). [The UniProt Consortium]
