Product information "Anti-ATF6, clone AF6229"
0.5 mg/ml antibody in PBS with 0.1 mg/ml BSA (US source) and 0.05% sodium azide. ER stress can cause the accumulation of unfolded proteins and lead to the activation of the UPR (unfolded proetin response). Cells have developed an intracellular signaling pathway to deal with this stress, and Activating Transcription Factor 6 (ATF6) is a major transducer of the UPR. Upon activation, ATF6 seperates from GPR78 and is cleaved. The ~50 kD cytosolic portion of ATF6 translocates to the nucleus, transmitting the ER stress signal. In the nucleus, ATF6 activates the transcription of UPR-responsive genes by biniding to their ERSE (ER stress response element) region. Protein function: Transcription factor that acts during endoplasmic reticulum stress by activating unfolded protein response target genes. Binds DNA on the 5'-CCAC[GA]-3'half of the ER stress response element (ERSE) (5'-CCAAT-N(9)-CCAC[GA]-3') and of ERSE II (5'-ATTGG-N-CCACG-3'). Binding to ERSE requires binding of NF-Y to ERSE. Could also be involved in activation of transcription by the serum response factor. [The UniProt Consortium]
