The ANKRD26 (ankyrin repeat domain 26) gene has been implicated to give rise to the POTE gene family which encode proteins containing ankyrin repeats and coiled -coil domains. The generation of mice that bear mutant AKFRD26 indicates that ANKRD26 plays a role in obesity, insulin resistance, and body size. ANKRD26 is also known as KIAA1074.
