May activate the MAP kinase JNK (PubMed:15123616). Plays a role in neurite outgrowth. During dendritic spine formation can bidirectionally induce pre- and post-synaptic differentiation of neurons by trans-synaptically binding to PTPRD. [The UniProt Consortium]
