Is a gonadotropin inhibitor similar to a hormone normally released from the hypothalamus gland. When given regularly it decreases testosterone levels in men and Oestrogen levels in women. Implantable leuprolide delivery system provides suppression of testosterone in patients with advanced prostate cancer. In experimental animals it was found inhibiting chemically induced mammary tumor formation as effectively as surgical Oophorectomy.
