2,3-MDMA is an aromatic positional isomer of 3,4-MDMA (ecstasy, Cay-13971), a euphoric entactogen that is illegal in most countries and is regulated (Schedule I) in the United States. While 2,3-MDMA exhibits a similar potency to 3,4-MDMA for inhibition of the noradrenalin transporter (IC50s = 6.2 and 6.6 µM, respectively), it is less potent than 3,4-MDMA for inhibition of the serotonin transporter (IC50s = 82 µM and 34.8 µM, respectively).
