SUN11602 is a mimetic of FGF2, also known as basic FGF (bFGF). It protects against glutamate-induced toxicity in primary rat cortical neurons when used at concentrations of 0.1, 0.3, and 1 µM, an effect that can be reversed by the FGFR1 inhibitor PD 166866 (Cay-22464). SUN11602 (1 µM) stimulates neurite outgrowth in primary rat hippocampal neurons.
