Picosulfate (sodium salt hydrate)

Picosulfate is a stimulant laxative and prodrug form of desacetyl bisacodyl (DAB, Cay-20928). Unlike bisacodyl (Cay-28826), picosulfate is hydrolyzed to DAB by colonic microbiota. Picosulfate (5 mg/kg) increases excreted fecal weight in a rat model of loperamide-induced constipation.
