Ardisiacrispin A is a triterpene saponin that has been found in Myrsine australis and has diverse biological activities. It inhibits the cytopathic effects of poliovirus type I and herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) in the filter paper disk assay when used at a concentration of 40 µg/disk and is active against various Candida species (MICs = 80-160 µg/ml). Ardisiacrispin A (10 and 13 µM) induces apoptosis in HepG2 cells. It induces contractions in rat uterus preparations when used at a concentration of 7.5 µM.Formal Name: (3beta,16alpha,20beta)-13,28-epoxy-3-[(O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1->2)-O-[O-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1->4)]-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl)oxy]-16-hydroxy-oleanan-29-al.
