Histatin 1 is an endogenous peptide secreted by the salivary glands. It accelerates wound closure in a scratch assay using TR146 epithelial-like cells and increases adhesion, migration, and the formation of vascular networks in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and EA.hy926 endothelial cells. Histatin 1 increases angiogenesis in a chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. It is active against C. albicans (LC50 = 6 µM)..
