CAQK targeting/delivery peptide (CAQK peptide) is a four-amino acid synthetic peptide that interacts with versican and tenascin-R, proteoglycans that are upregulated in the brain extracellular matrix (ECM) in CNS injuries. Intravenous administration of CAQK peptide leads to its accumulation in injured brain tissue over uninjured brain tissue in mice. CAQK peptide-conjugated nanoparticles have been used to selectively deliver siRNA to injured brain tissue and to image brain injuries in mice..
