Product information "BMP-4 (human), animal-free recombinant"
Product Description: Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) belong to the TGF-beta superfamily, a group of structurally related signaling proteins. This superfamily is widely distributed in the body and plays diverse roles during prenatal and postnatal life. Like BMP-7, BMP-4 contributes significantly to bone and cartilage development and maintenance. Reduced BMP-4 expression is linked to various bone disorders, including Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva, an inherited condition. E.coli-derived BMP-4 is a fully active homodimeric protein consisting of two 106 amino acid subunits, corresponding to amino acids 303-408 of the full-length BMP-4 precursor. The calculated molecular weight of Recombinant Human BMP-4 (E.coli-derived) is 23.9 kDa. . Amino acid sequence: KKNKNCRRHS LYVDFSDVGW NDWIVAPPGY QAFYCHGDCP FPLADHLNST NHAIVQTLVN SVNSSIPKAC CVPTELSAIS MLYLDEYDKV VLKNYQEMVV EGCGCR. Endotoxin concentration: <0.1 EU/µg. Activity: Determined by its ability to induce alkaline phosphatase production by ATDC-5 cells. The expected ED50 for this effect is 2-8 ng/ml. Contains no preservative. Protein function: Induces cartilage and bone formation. Also acts in mesoderm induction, tooth development, limb formation and fracture repair. Acts in concert with PTHLH/PTHRP to stimulate ductal outgrowth during embryonic mammary development and to inhibit hair follicle induction. [The UniProt Consortium]
