Cariporide

Cariporide is an inhibitor of sodium-hydrogen exchanger 1 (NHE-1, IC50 = 0.56 µM in an intracellular pH recovery assay). It is selective for NHE-1 over NHE-2 (IC50 = 28 µM in an intracellular pH recovery assay). Cariporide inhibits sodium propionate-induced swelling of isolated human platelets (IC50 = 0.023 µM). It reduces the myocardial infarct size as a percentage of the area at risk in a rabbit model of ischemia-reperfusion injury induced by coronary artery occlusion when administered at a dose of 1 mg/kg.
