A Gal-3 inhibitor (IC50 = 8 µM), prevents GPN-induced increases in Gal-3 levels in JIMT-1 cells (IC50 = 36 nM), induces apoptosis, induces cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase, and decreases the levels of aggrecan, Ccl3, and Mmp-3 in primary rat cartilage end plate cells at 25 µM, increases survival and decreases pulmonary fibrosis but also decreases body weight in a mouse model of bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis at 0.1 mg/kg per day.
