Brensocatib

Brensocatib, also known as AZD7986 is an oral DPPI (dipeptidyl peptidase 1, also known as cathepsin C) inhibitor. It is being studied for the treatment of bronchiectasis. Cathepsin C, also known as DPPI, is a lysosomal aspartic protease with dipeptidylpeptidase activity over a broad range of substrates. It is mostly found in the lysosomes, where it performs multiple roles, from degradation of intra- and extra-cellular proteins, regulate cell death and play a role in inflammation. It can activate proteins such as elastase, granzyme A and B. It is found at high levels in several cancer types, and it has been linked to an increase of metastasis and angiogenesis. Its role in cancer has made it an attractive target in oncology, with the development of specific, membrane permeable inhibitors being an active area of research. Brensocatib, also known as AZD7986, is an inhibitor currently in clinical trials for the treatment of bronchiectasis.
