Ethidium homodimer-1 is a membrane-impermeable fluorescent dye and DNA intercalator. It displays absorbance and emission maxima at 528 and 617 nm, respectively. Ethidium homodimer-1 has commonly been used to stain DNA in agarose gel electrophoresis and dead cells in cell viability assays.
