BPP Bioportides(TM) are novel multi-functional designer proteins that bind quickly, spontaneously, reversibly, and robustly nucleic acids and transport them across the host's cell membrane utilizing a specialized N-terminal cell-penetrating-peptide moiety. This domain is designed differently for each BPP Bioportide(TM), depending on which type of host cell is to be addressed. The BPP Bioportide(TM) Transformation Kit for E. coli provides a ready-to-use system for efficient and fast transformation of E. coli particularly with regard to special applications like library cloning, fragment cloning or cloning of large plasmids (>10kb). The BPP Bioportide(TM) enables the transport of nucleic acids, ranging from 22 nt to >10 kb, into cells. Both RNA and DNA, including single- and double-stranded, linear or circular forms, can be transferred reliably. This innovative reagent facilitates the uptake of nucleic acids without requiring inducing cell stress, i.e. heat shock, or competent cells, i.e. by means of electroporation or chemical treatment of cell wall and cell membrane. The easy and fast protocol works with picogram quantities of nucleic acids. BPP Bioportides(TM) show robust performance in extreme environments (up to 80°C, pH > 9.0, high salt concentrations).
