Description: MMP26 (Matrix Metallopeptidase 26) is a Protein Coding gene. MMP26 is a member of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and has been reported to be highly expressed in many cancers. The protein differs from most MMP family members in that it lacks a conserved C-terminal protein domain. It may hydrolyze collagen type IV, fibronectin, fibrinogen, beta-casein, type I gelatin, and alpha-1 proteinase inhibitor, and is also able to activate progelatinase B. MMP26 is a target gene of miR-125b, and the expression profile of MMP26 showed an inverse relationship with miR-125b in vivo and in vitro. The overexpression of MMP26 in SW1353 cells increased cell invasiveness, while inhibition of MMP26 decreased cell invasiveness.
