Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases having diverse physiological functions, from carcinogenesis to novel cancer biomarkers. This gene is one of the fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located in a cluster on chromosome 19. The KLK-6 enzyme is regulated by steroid hormones. In tissue culture, the enzyme has been found to generate amyloidogenic fragments from the amyloid precursor protein, suggesting a potential for involvement in Alzheimer's disease. RANDOX recombinant Kallikrein-6 comprises a 228 amino acid fragment (17-244) corresponding to the mature Kallikrein-6 protein and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
