C-Reactive Protein, Recombinant, Human (CRP)

CRP is an acute phase protein that correlates with inflammatory disease and is synthesized by hepatocytes during the acute phase response by certain cytokines (IL-1 and TNF Alpha and Beta). CRP levels increase dramatically (up to 1,000 fold) and serve as a useful marker of inflammation in such conditions as bacterial infection, rheumatoid arthritis, viral infections, transplantation rejection, meningitis, myocardial infarction, septicemia, osteomyelitis and others. CRP is also highly correlated to Serum Amyloid A levels. Recombinant CRP is a pentamerized active molecule secreted into culture medium during E.coli fermentation with host cells having human CRP gene, allowing r-hCRP to be excreted without cell lysis. The patented technology specifies only active r-hCRP to be manufactured, which is equivalent to native one originated from human tissues. The recombinant CRP is affinity-purified by use of phosphorylcholine conjugated matrices. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
