MEL-A is a glycolipid biosurfactant that is produced from vegetable oils by Pseudozyma yeasts. Mixtures of MEL-A isoforms have been used as moisturizing agents in cosmetics, as well as to improve the low-temperature fluidity of biodiesel and hydrocarbon fuels.
