Juniperonic Acid

Juniperonic acid is an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid that has been found in plant oils, including those of J. communis. Juniperonic acid can be biosynthesized from alpha-linolenic acid (Cay90210, Cay21910) in C. elegans and reverses growth reductions and lifespan increases in a C. elegans mutant lacking Delta6-desaturase that cannot biosynthesize certain fatty acids, such as arachidonic acid (Cay90010, Cay90010.1, Cay10006607) and omega-3 arachidonic acid (Cay90011).
