Hyodeoxycholic acid (HDCA) is a secondary bile acid. It is produced from lithocholic acid (Cay-20253) by gut bacteria. Dietary administration of HDCA (1.25% w/w) decreases plasma VLDL and LDL cholesterol levels and reduces fasting glucose levels and atherosclerotic lesion size in LDL receptor knockout mice fed a Western diet. Serum levels of HDCA are increased in patients with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Hyodeoxycholic acid MaxSpec(R) standard is a quantitative grade standard of Hyodeoxycholic Acid (Cay-20294) that has been prepared specifically for mass spectrometry and related applications where quantitative reproducibility is required. The solution has been prepared gravimetrically and is supplied in a deactivated glass ampule sealed under argon. The concentration was verified by comparison to an independently prepared calibration standard.
