Elaidic Acid-d17 is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of elaidic acid (Cay-90250) by GC- or LC-MS. Elaidic acid is a monounsaturated trans fatty acid and the 9-trans isomer of oleic acid (Cay-90260, Cay-24659) that has been found in partially hydrogenated cooking oils. It reduces HHT and HETE formation and increases synthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2, Cay-14010), PGF2alpha (Cay-16010, Cay-16020), PGD2 (Cay-12010), and thromboxane B2 (TXB2, Cay-19030) induced by arachidonic acid (Cay-90010, Cay-90010.1, Cay-10006607) in isolated human platelets. Elaidic acid (0.1-5 mmol/L) induces apoptosis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs).
