Dyes and Labeling Reagents

This category comprises chemicals for permanent and temporary labeling of organelles, proteins, and other molecules. For example, this includes the covalent linkage of a target protein, such as an antibody, with a fluorescent dye/fluorophore, allowing detection of the target protein in microscopic experiments. For the purpose of detection, proteins can also be coupled with reporter enzymes (e.g. HRP) or radioactive isotopes. To facilitate the purification of a target protein, biotinylation followed by streptavidine affinity binding has proven to be effective.

MitoDNA(TM) Red 680
MitoDNA(TM) Red 680

Item number: ABD-22688

There are limited probes available that effectively detect mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid (mtDNA). Common fluorescent DNA probes, such as DAPI, Hoechst, or SYBR(R) Green, lack the specificity required for mitochondrial targeting, primarily staining nuclear DNA. MitoDNA(TM) Red 680 is a cell-permeable dye that...

Among the ratiometric calcium indicators, Fura-2 and Indo-1 are most commonly used. Fura-2 is excitation-ratioable while Indo-1 is emission-ratioable. Fura-2 is preferred for ratio-imaging microscopy, in which it is more practical to change excitation wavelengths than emission wavelengths. Upon binding Ca2+, Fura-2...
