JOE is a fluorescein-based xanthene dye that incorporates methoxy groups and chlorine atoms. Its absorption and emission spectra fall between the FAM and TAMRA/ROX channels, making it an ideal fluorophore for multiplex detection applications, such as DNA sequencing. This derivative is an activated N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ester, which is used to label proteins, peptides, amino-modified oligonucleotides, and other target molecules by forming stable amide bonds with amine groups.
