Spiraeoside is a flavonoid glycoside that has been found in F. ulmaria and has diverse biological activities. It scavenges DPPH (Cay14805) and hydroxyl radicals (IC50s = 19.54 and 5.1 µg/ml, respectively) and inhibits beta-glucuronidase and lipoxygenase (LO) in cell-free assays. Spiraeoside (15 µg/ml) induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in HeLa cervical cancer cells. It decreases the severity of ethanol-induced gastric lesions in rats when administered at a dose of 50 mg/kg..
