White to off-white powder. Soluble in DMSO (20mg/ml), DMF (5mg/ml) or ethanol (10mg/ml). Chemical. CAS: 55056-80-9. Formula: C51H84O22. MW: 1049.2. Protodioscin is a steroidal saponin first isolated from plants, with anticancer, antihyperlipidemic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. It displays cytotoxic, apoptosis incuding and antiproliferative activity against a range of cancer cells. Protodioscin has also been shown to have aphrodisiac properties.
