Pristane

Pristane is a hydrocarbon oil adjuvant that is used as an inflammation-inducing agent to induce tumorigenesis in mice and to induce autoimmune diseases in rodents. As a rheumatoid arthritis-inducing agent, it is used in research to understand the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. It works as an immunological adjuvant for monoclonal antibody generation in mouse ascites. It is used as a lubricant, a transformer oil, an immunologic adjuvant, and an anti-corrosion agent, biological marker, plasmocytomas inducer and in production of monoclonal antibodies.
