4-methoxy-5-Hydroxycanthin-6-one

4-methoxy-5-Hydroxycathin-6-one is an alkaloid that has been found in P. quassioides and has anti-inflammatory activity. It reduces LPS-induced TNF-alpha release from, and nitric oxide (NO) production in, RAW 264.7 macrophages when used at concentrations of 10, 30, and 100 µM. In vivo, 4-methoxy-5-hydroxycathin-6-one (9 and 27 mg/kg) reduces paw swelling in a rat model of arthritis induced by complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA).
