Cells and Cell Lines

Cell culture and microbial culture techniques are essential for almost every aspect of biological research since modern microbiology started in the 19th century. The invention of microbial cultures of bacteria and yeast in sterile culture media allows selective growing of monoclonal cultures. From these cultures, competent cells can be generated for the use in transformation. Cell culture colloquially refers to cultures of animal cells, in which we differentiate between ex vivo cultures and immortalized cell lines. Ex vivo cultures are derived from blood or organs and have a limited life span. Immortalized cell lines, however, are usually derived from tumors and proliferate indefinitely due to mutations in the cell cycle controls.

Human Choroid Plexus Epithelial Cells - Comprehensive Kit
Human Choroid Plexus Epithelial Cells - Comprehensive Kit

Item number: SCC-1310-KIT

The choroid plexus is located in the ventricles of the brain where cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is constantly produced. It consists of a network of capillaries enclosed by a single layer of epithelial cells that together form the blood-CSF barrier. Choroid plexus epithelial cells (CPEpiC) play a central role in...

Human Dural Microvascular Endothelial Cells
Human Dural Microvascular Endothelial Cells

Item number: SCC-1430

The dura mater is the outermost layer of the meninges and functions to carry blood from the brain to the heart and contain the cerebrospinal fluid. The dura mater is composed of two layers known as the periosteal and meningeal layer. Endothelial cells regulate blood vessel function and serve as a selective barrier...

Human Oligodendrocyte Precursor Cells
Human Oligodendrocyte Precursor Cells

Item number: SCC-1600

The precursor cells for oligodendrocytes were first discovered in 1993 by Raff, Miller and Noble and have been extensively studied. These precursor cells are referred in the literature as either oligodendrocyte-type-2 astrocyte progenitor cells or oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPC). The developing and adult...

Human Epidermal Keratinocytes-fetal - Cells only

Item number: SCC-2120

The epidermal layer of the skin provides an essential function as a protective barrier against insults from the external environment. The predominant cell type in the epidermis is keratinocytes and they are located in the stratified squamous epithelia. Keratinocytes are named after keratin, which is the most...

Human Hair Germinal Matrix Cells - Cells only

Item number: SCC-2410

The germinal matrix is a region surrounding the dermal papilla at the base of the hair bulb which contains a population of transit-amplifying matrix cells. It is the site where hair growth and pigmentation occur. During the active hair growth phase, germinal matrix cells rapidly proliferate and differentiate into...

Human Adrenal Microvascular Endothelial Cells - Cells only

Item number: SCC-3600

The adrenal gland plays an essential role in regulating homeostasis in the body through the secretion of corticosteroid and androgen hormones. The secreted steroids arise from the three zones of the adrenal gland: the zona glomerulosa, zona fasciculate, and zona reticularis. Microvascular endothelial cells (MEC)...

Human Bladder Smooth Muscle Cells
Human Bladder Smooth Muscle Cells

Item number: SCC-4310

The urinary bladder is a hollow organ made up of smooth muscle cells (SMC). The relaxation and contraction of urinary bladder smooth muscle allows the bladder to store and void urine, respectively. Phenotypic modulation of bladder SMC and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase are associated with various...

Human Testicular Endothelial Cells - Comprehensive Kit

Item number: SCC-4500-KIT

Testicular Endothelial Cells (TEC), located in the mesonephros, migrate in the developing embryo from the mesonephros to form the testis vasculature during the process of testis cord formation. The migrating endothelial cells are also essential because they initiate cord formation by creating partitions for the...
