Rat GAL1 also known as Galectin-1 or Lgals1 is a beta-galactoside-binding lectin that regulates apoptosis, cell proliferation and cell differentiation. This protein with a molecular mass of approximately 14 kDa exists as a noncovalent homodimer. It is widely expressed in various tissues and plays a role in modulating immune responses, cell adhesion, and migration. Galectin-1 inhibits CD45 protein phosphatase activity and thereby prevents the dephosphorylation of Lyn kinase. It is a potent inducer of T-cell apoptosis and has been implicated in cancer, inflammation, and autoimmune disorders.
