IgG is a monomeric immunoglobulin composed of two identical heavy chains and two identical light chains linked together by inter-chain disulfide bonds. There are four IgG subclasses (IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, and IgG4) in humans named in order of decreasing abundance. They differ in the size of the hinge region and the number and arrangements of the interchain disulfide bonds linking their heavy chains. Of the 5 immunoglobulin isotypes, IgG is most abundant in human serum. IgG is synthesized and secreted by plasma B cells and is involved in the secondary immune response.
