This protein is an apolipoprotein that plays an important role in regulating the plasma triglyceride levels, a major risk factor for coronary artery disease. It is a component of high density lipoprotein and is highly similar to a rat protein that is upregulated in response to liver injury. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hypertriglyceridemia and hyperlipoproteinemia type 5. This gene is located proximal to the apolipoprotein gene cluster on chromosome 11q23. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified. Sample Type: Serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, Intended Use: For the quantitative determination of rat apolipoprotein A5 (apo-A5) concentrations in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates. Sensitivity: 7.8pg/ml, Range: 31.2-2000pg/ml, Specificity: This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of rat apo-A5. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between rat apo-A5 and analogues was observed. Test Principle: This BioAssay(TM) employs the competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay technique. The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with apo-A5. Standards or samples are added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugated antibody preparation specific for apo-A5. The competitive inhibition reaction is launched between with pre-coated apo-A5 and apo-A5 in samples. A substrate solution is added to the wells and the color develops in opposite to the amount of apo-A5 in the samples. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
