Product Description: Zinc finger and BTB domain containing 16 (ZBTB16), also known as PLZF, is a nuclear transcription factor characterized by nine Kruppel-type C2H2 zinc finger domains at its carboxyl terminus and a BTB/POZ domain, placing it within the Krueppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family. ZBTB16 functions primarily as a transcriptional regulator, modulating gene expression through interactions with histone deacetylases and acting as a chromatin remodeler in a context-dependent manner. It plays crucial roles in cell cycle progression, neural progenitor cell proliferation, neuronal differentiation, and the development and function of innate-like unconventional T cells, including invariant natural killer T (iNKT) and gamma-delta T cells. Disease associations include its involvement in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) due to aberrant gene rearrangements, and its dysregulation has been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia, as well as cognitive and behavioral impairments in animal models. Protein Function: Acts as a transcriptional repressor (PubMed:10688654, PubMed:24359566). Transcriptional repression may be mediated through recruitment of histone deacetylases to target promoters (PubMed:10688654). May play a role in myeloid maturation and in the development and/or maintenance of other differentiated tissues.
