Product Description: Vascular endothelial growth factor D (VEGFD) is a secreted protein that plays a crucial role in promoting the remodeling of blood vessels and lymphatics in development and disease. It is a member of the VEGF family of ligands and can activate both VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3, which are cell surface receptor tyrosine kinases expressed on blood vessels and lymphatic vessels. VEGFD exists as a covalent-linked homodimer and can undergo extracellular proteolytic processing, which regulates its signaling properties. While VEGFD is dispensable for the development of the lymphatic system in mice, it can modulate lymphatics in the skin and enhance the density of lymphatics adjacent to bronchioles in the lung. VEGFD has been implicated in various diseases, including lymphangioleiomyomatosis, a rare lung disease characterized by abnormal smooth muscle cell proliferation.
